Research Depth Levels
When you start a Deep Research job, you choose a depth level. The level determines how many sources are searched, how many passes the AI makes, and how long the report takes to generate.

Overview
| Level | Time | Sources | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quick | ~30 seconds | 3–5 | Fast background checks, familiar topics |
| Standard | ~1 minute | 8–12 | Most everyday research tasks |
| Deep | ~3 minutes | 20+ | Comprehensive reports, unfamiliar topics |
Quick (~30 seconds)
Quick research retrieves 3–5 sources and runs a single synthesis pass. The resulting report is concise — typically 300–600 words — and covers the main points without deep exploration of subtopics.
Good for:
- Getting the gist of a topic you vaguely know
- Confirming a fact or checking a definition
- Generating a brief that will be discussed verbally, not shared as a standalone document
- Times when you need an answer in under a minute
Not ideal for:
- Nuanced or contested topics where a few sources won't capture the full picture
- Any report you plan to share externally
Standard (~1 minute)
Standard research retrieves 8–12 sources and runs a single synthesis pass. The report is more thorough — typically 800–1,500 words — with structured sections and broader source coverage.
Good for:
- Most everyday research tasks
- Competitor or market overviews
- Technical explanations for a general audience
- Internal briefs and meeting preparation
Standard is the default depth level and the right choice in most situations. If you're unsure which level to pick, start with Standard — you can always re-run at Deep if you need more detail.
Deep (~3 minutes)
Deep research retrieves 20 or more sources and runs multiple synthesis passes. In the first pass, Hubrix identifies gaps and areas needing more evidence, then searches for additional sources to fill those gaps. The final report is comprehensive — typically 2,000–4,000 words — with detailed sections, nuanced discussion, and extensive references.
Good for:
- Executive briefings and white papers
- Due diligence on companies or technologies
- Scientific or technical literature reviews
- Any report you intend to publish or share externally
Not ideal for:
- Quick questions where you don't need the detail
- Topics where speed matters more than comprehensiveness
Deep research takes significantly longer than Quick or Standard and uses more credits. Reserve it for research where the additional depth genuinely matters.
Changing depth after a run
You cannot change the depth level of a completed research job. If you ran Quick and want more detail, start a new research job with the same question at Standard or Deep. The new report will be saved separately.
